The Executive Committee, formed under the Chairmanship of the Minister for Education and Sports, consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Universities, and eminent public figures and members in the different Subject Committees are the managing organs of the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO. This Commission consists of ex-officio and nominated members, contributing to the construct of the policy and providing directions to the functioning of its organs. The Constitution has established a system to holding annual conventions. The Nepal National Commission for UNESCO has been established to achieve the goals, enshrined in its Constitution.

Functions, duties and authority of the Commission are as follows:
- To maintain the mutual relation among the member states of UNESCO.
- To provide advice to the government of Nepal on matter relating to the competency of UNESCO in the field of culture, education, science and mass communication.
- To seek the support and co – operation of the people through and the country through disseminating the ideals and programme of UNESCO.
- To advise and direct and members of the delegation going to attend the general conference of UNESCO taking place in every year.
- To implement or to encourage to implement the project proposals passed by UNESCO.
- To enhance co – operation and international understanding among the member countries through exchange visits for the achievement of ideals of UNESCO.
- To organize activities like exchange of materials contributory and promoting international understanding, development of UNESCO association school projects, publication of UNESCO related materials, training and seminar for the attainment of UNESCO goals.
- To observe the activities conducted by UNESCO clubs affiliated with Nepal National Commission for UNESCO.
- To summon the convention of the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO, at least, once in a year.
- To conduct or direct to conduct the programmes under the financial and technical co – operation of UNESCO.
- To pass the proposals for the achievement of the goals of UNESCO.
- To implement the policy and programmes of the commission through executive committee and its secretariat.
